Attachment styles refer to four (4) distinct approaches to close relationships based on an infant’s experience with his or her primary caregiver and carried over into adult relationships: secure, dismissing, preoccupied, or fearful. These are expectations people develop about relationships with others, based on the relationship they had with their primary caregiver when they were infants.
