Conditions of worth

Conditions of worth refer to conditions after which affection is given. It refer to conditions in which the child receives love only when he or she fulfills certain demands.

It is a term used by Carl Rogers to describe social influences on the self-concept; for example, a child might not include anger in her self-concept because her parents' scolding has established a condition of worth such that anger is inappropriate.
