Idealization refers to a second basic need for the developing child in Self psychology is a view of parents as powerful and flawless. The Idealization provides an internalized object repres enting that part of the self striving for perfection and acting in good conscience. Idealizing the parent results in an ego ideal that subconsciously serves as a motivator for worthy goals, and competency and it acts as a conscience.
