Persistent vegetative state refers to a state in which a person"s brain stem is the only part of the brain that is functioning, a state from which the person does not recover.

Moreover, Persistent vegetative state is a state in which a person's brainstem functions to continue to maintain heartbeat and respiration even when there is no cortical functioning.
