Agnosia
Agnosia refers to the inability to identify objects, inability to organise sensory information so as to recognise objects (e.g. visual agnosia) or sometimes even parts of the body, (e.g. hemisomatoagnosia). The person’s sensory functions are unimpaired, but he or she is unable to recognize the source of stimulation. It means also “perception without meaning”
Other definition:
Agnosia refers to the inability to recognize and name familiar objects or experiences, despite the ability to perceive their basic elements. It may be a symptom of Dementia or other brain disorders.
