Cultural competence
Cultural competence refers to a knowledge and appreciation of other cultural groups and the skills to be effective with members of these groups.
Cultural competence also refers to health care provider’s understanding of patients’ cultural characteristics, values, and traditions. In order to be effective, a health care provider must possess cultural competence.
