Emphysema is defined as a disease of the lung characterized by abnormal dilution of its air spaces and distension of its walls. Frequently, heart action is impaired. It is a chronic lung disease in which scar tissue and mucus obstruct the respiratory passages. Moreover, Emphysema is a severe lung disease that greatly reduces the ability to exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen.
