Open-class word refers to a word, such as a noun, a verb, or an adjective, that plays a primary role in the meaning of a sentence. Open-class words, moreover is a word from the categories of noun, verb, adjective, adverb which is labeled "open class" because new nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs can readily be coined and added to the language.
