Coping strategies refer to conscious efforts to reduce anxiety in the face of a perceived threat. They are specific behavioral and psychological efforts that people use to master, tolerate, reduce, or minimize stressful events.

Coping strategies are usually learned from past experiences or role models ; coping can apply to dying, loss , or any challenging situation in life; coping may involve an individual, his or her family members, and any care providers who may be implicated in the situation
