Dual Diagnosis is a term which refers to coexisting diagnoses of mental illness and drug or Alcohol abuse.

It covers cases where someone with a mental illness is subsequently diagnosed with an addiction that aggravates their condition, such as cannabis use on top of schizophrenia. It may refer to someone whose drug addiction leads to mental illness, as may happen with long-term use of amphetamines or cocaine.
