Infantile autism is defined as a pervasive developmental disorder which is evident before age 3 that involves impaired communication , socialization, and behavioral adaptation . Atypical behaviors , preoccupations, or interests are frequently evident. The cause of the disorder is unknown, and the prognosis is poor.
