Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is defined as a network of affiliated practitioners that has agreed to charge pre-established rates for particular medical services.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) also refers to a managed care system that contracts with outside providers to supply services to members. These outside providers are reimbursed for their services at a discounted rate in return for an increased number of member referrals.
