TAT (Thematic Apperception Test) refers to a projective personality test in which test-takers are shown pictures and asked to tell stories; a projective technique that purports to reveal patients' personality characteristics by interpreting the stories they produce in response to a series of pictures.

Thematic Apperception Test is consisting of 20 different scenes and life situations about which respondents make up stories. It involves showing participants drawings of ambiguous scenes and asking them to write stories about what is happening, which are then scored for the presence of particular themes. It is also designed to measure various need levels. Thematic Apperception Test is also called TAT.
