Emotion-focused coping is defined as the management and control of one's emotional reaction to a stressful or threatening situation. It is a type of coping in which a person does not change anything about the situation itself, but instead tries to improve feelings about the situation. Emotion-focused coping, moreover, refers to any coping behavior that is directed towards changing one’s own emotional reaction to a stressor; coping strategies oriented toward managing the emotions that accompany the perception of stress.
