Glossary L

Leptin

Leptin refers to peptide released by fat cells; tends to decrease eating, partly by inhibiting release of neuropeptide Y in the hypothalamus. Moreover, Leptin is protein hormone produced by fat cells in the body that is related to eating and weight control.

Lesion

Lesion means damage to a structure. Lesions is derived from Latin laesio, meaning "to hurt" any pathologic or traumatic discontinuity of brain tissue. Depending on their size and location, Lesions result in minor or major behavioral effects.
