Instinctive drift

Instinctive drift refers to an instance of classical conditioning in which a genetically based, fixed action pattern gradually emerges and displaces a behavior that is being operantly conditioned; the tendency for behavior to drift toward a Fixed action pattern. Instinctive drift also refers to the substitution of instinctive behaviors for behaviors that had been reinforced.
