Basic anxiety refers to a primary form of anxiety that arises from living in a hostile world.; a pervasive feeling of loneliness and helplessness said to be the foundation of neurosis. According to Horney, it is the feeling of being alone and helpless in a hostile world that a child experiences when he or she represses basic hostility. (See also Basic hostility.)
Basic cry refers to cry that starts softly and gradually becomes more intense that is usually heard when babies are hungry or tired.
