Glossary I

Internalization

Internalization is a process in which the values, beliefs, and norms of the culture become the values, beliefs, and norms of the individual; the process of adopting the attributes or standards of other people and taking these standards as one’s own

Internalized control

Internalized control refers to self -regulation of behavior and conformity to societal norms as a result of guilt feelings arising in the conscience.

Internalizing disorders

Internalizing disorders refer to childhood disorders, such as, the mood or anxiety disorders that are characterized by symptoms of anxiety, depression, shyness, and social withdrawal.
